Featured Article – Prostate Cancer Treatment Options

Prostate cancer is one of the worst forms of cancer a person could develop. The worst thing is that there is not nearly enough information about prostate cancer that is available and so a lot of people are unsure about it. Prostate cancer is a cancer that develops in the prostate gland, a gland in the male reproductive system. All men should be concerned with prostate cancer and make sure that they are doing everything they can to prevent it.

If a man does develop prostate cancer he is going to need to work with his doctor in order to decide on a prostate cancer treatment to try and fight the cancer and get rid of it. Fortunately there are a few different prostate cancer treatment options that have proven to be effective and which should be considered here. One prostate cancer treatment is radiation therapy. Anyone who went through with this therapy would be put under a radiation machine and radiation is then used on the prostate gland in order to hopefully kill the cancer off.

There are possible risks and complications of this as there are with all prostate cancer treatment options. The most common side effect is impotence. Men feel fatigued and often lose their sex drive, all problems that can be incredibly draining and cause a man to sink into depression. The possible advantages make this treatment almost always worth a try however as most men respond quite well to it.

There are other prostate cancer treatment options as well and that includes radical prostatectomy. This is another treatment that offers almost certain improvement to anyone with prostate cancer. The surgery will usually keep the person in the hospital for a few days and as long as the cancer has been entirely removed during the surgery the person should be cured. Again there is a chance of impotence which a lot of men worry about but it is more important to get rid of the cancer and make sure that it is gone.

It is important that men understand that they need to work closely with their doctors in order to choose properly from the different prostate cancer treatment options. The only way to figure out from the different prostate cancer treatment options which will be most suitable is by taking into consideration facts such as how long the cancer has been there, what the symptoms are and whether it has spread. Some people respond to milder treatment while others require intense and ongoing treatment to get any results at all. Patients must work closely together with their doctors to ensure that they are doing well and that their treatment is working.

Featured Article – Menopause Symptoms That You Should Recognize

Even though most women hate having a monthly menstrual cycle, almost none of them actively look forward to menopause. The simple fact is that menopause is a very hard time for women to go through. It is often compared to having a second puberty only this time the woman is acutely aware of her changes and how those menopause symptoms affect the people in her life. Everyone needs to understand menopause symptoms because it helps them to be a better support system for the women they know who have to go through the change. The following are symptoms that you should look out for if you or one of the women in your life (girlfriend, wife, mother, sister, daughter) is close to the age where menopause usually starts.

The first thing a man might notice is his partner’s unwillingness to participate in sexual contact due to dryness or simple lack of desire which can be difficult for them to understand. A woman’s lack of interest or desire is not always a symptom of menopause. A dry spell that lasts longer than a short period of time could indicate your partner is about to experience a serious life altering event. Try to be patient with her! This change is not very pleasant for her either.

As far as menopause symptoms go, incontinence is pretty embarrassing. Incontinence is usually a side effect of losing smooth muscle tone.

This happens most often when people sneeze but it can also happen after laughing very hard. This particular symptom of menopause is experienced differently by every woman. Some might not have many problems with it, but others have a very hard time with it. This particular symptom can be incredibly embarrassing for some. Try to practice some patience if the woman in your life suddenly has to sprint to the bathroom after she sneezes or if she has to wear some form of protective gear.

If your loved one suddenly appears anxious or irritable it could be a sign of menopause. Suicide rates in menopausal women are higher than in those not yet experiencing the change due to overwhelming feelings of dread or impending doom. Panic attacks are the most common description of these sensations although not necessarily so. Should one of the women in your life begin to behave in this manner or have these symptoms you can probably assume she has begun to go through the “change”. Remain calm, be as sensitive as you can to what she is experiencing.

Menopause, plainly put, is not fun. Obviously it is rough for the woman who is going through it. In fact, the family and friends of a menopausal woman will endure many of the same challenges. Just remember the woman you see before you going through this life altering change cannot control what she is experiencing. These are involuntary reactions to changes her body is going through. Understand that she needs your support and your patience. At some point the process will slow and she will level out. Identifying menopause symptoms can help you be more sympathetic and you could make the experience more bearable for her.
