Flu Fighting You Can Benefit From
In the north, flu season arrives every fall and winter. This year Swine flu has gotten front page in the news. It is so famous that the vaccine is sold out as soon as it arrives in the medical centers. Health officials claim that 200,000 of the 5 to 20% of people who get the flu will be hospitalized, and 36,000 will die from the flu this year.
When you talk honestly with the medical community, however, they will tell you that the Swine flu is not worse than any before it. Some even claim the above statistics are hyped. For example, most of the 36,000 who supposedly died of the flu were already weakened by other problems such as pneumonia. No doubt the possibility of catching the flu is a much greater fear to these.
A recent Internet link outlined nine reasons why not to give your children to flu vaccine. These included, a) the consequences may be more dangerous than getting the flu itself; b) Swine flu is just another flu, not something unusually lethal; c) prior flu vaccination programs have proved to be worthless; d) over-vaccinating children is a common problem; e) the vaccine has not been proved that it works. Yet, though Swine flu may be exploited, no one wants to get sick with the flu.
Consider these precautions you can take to reduce your chance of infection. Wash your hands thoroughly using liquid soap and running water. (Antibacterial soap is not better than the regular stuff). Use a dishwasher if possible for plates and utensils because it uses much hotter water than hands can stand and thus kills more germs. Isolate the sick as much as possible and stay away from others who might be getting the flu.
Drinking water is a common way for bacteria and viruses to spread. Probably your source of drinking water has been tested. City water has a minimum standard and is tested often, and well water should also be tested. However, additional filtering is recommended, especially during the flu season. It is surprising how viruses can contaminate a home’s drinking water and it doesn’t take much to be dangerous. Filtered water can eliminate this worry.
For example, one group tested the Black Berkey water filters with more than 10,000 times the concentration of pathogens per liter than is required by standard test protocol. Under such conditions, it would be normal to expect 100,000 or more pathogens per liter. The report is here quoted verbatim: “Incredibly the purification elements removed 100% of the pathogens. Absolutely no pathogens were cultured from the effluent or were able to be detected, even under an electron microscope, setting a new standard in water purification” . Such a result would certainly bring peace of mind to any who want to be safe from the flu.
These activated charcoal filter rods have been tested to remove Klebsiella, E. Coli, Pseudomonas, Giardia, Aeriginousis, and Cryptosporitium resulting in non-detectable levels. These pathogens could cause serious illness if allowed in drinking water. So the promise they will be removed to non-detectable levels certainly brings peace of mind.
The flu season won’t go away. Many options face us as to how we can avoid getting sick. Whatever you decide, be sure to follow these simple steps to minimize you susceptibility to its attack.
Also consider the excellent protection your family would receive from a Berkey Water Filter. They are able to filter out a much higher percentage of contaminants than most filters where water pressure forces the contaminants through. Learn more about the amazing effectiveness of the Black Berkey Filters, including how they can filter up to 6000 gallons with each included pair of filters.
